The Defense Contract Management Agency is a rich resource of indispensable partners who contribute to and benefit from integrated missions and programs. We are an independent combat support agency within the Department of Defense (DoD). We are the Department's contract manager, responsible for ensuring Federal acquisition programs, supplies, and services are delivered on time, within cost and meet performance requirements.

About the Position:

The position of Mechanical Engineer is a position in the DCMA Keystone Program. DCMA uses the Expedited Hiring Authority to recruit and attract exceptional individuals into the Federal Workforce. Prior to appointment, all candidates will be required to sign a Keystone Conditions of Employment Agreement.

NOTE: During the Keystone Program, participants will receive specialized formal classroom training, computer-based training, and on-the-job (OJT) training. The training development program will consist of the following:

1. Report initially to CMO/Center for at least 1 week.

2. Spend 6 months in the CMO/Center for more OJT and developmental training.

3. Return possibly to the DLC for 1 week assessment/update training.

4. Return to the CMO/Center for more OJT and developmental training.

5. Return as necessary to the DLC throughout the 2nd/3rd year for additional functional training.

·       Completes classroom and on-the-job training to acquire, exercise, and maintain knowledge of the duties inherent in the performance of professional general engineering duties in support of a senior engineer who is responsible for two or more engineering functions, in connection with assigned products, processes or systems.

·      Provides technical assistance to the supervisor of record or other senior engineers in progressively responsible assignments for defense systems and components during various phases of development, production and sustainment.

·      Evaluates and develops recommended solutions to complex technical problems.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

 

To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, applicants must possess:

A. Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

 

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, applicants must possess:

A bachelor's degree or higher level degree in professional engineering ANDSuperior Academic Achievement (S.A.A); OR 1 full year of graduate leveleducation in engineering or fields related to the position; OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level. Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience applying engineering principles and practices; experience communicating orally and writing technical reports or memoranda; experience analyzing facts, conditions and data to draw conclusions and make recommendations; experience reviewing contract clauses.

SuperiorAcademic Achievement is obtained through: (1) Class standing - being in the upper third of thegraduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision based oncompleted courses; (2) Grade-point average - (a) having a grade-point averageof 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on the official transcript,or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on coursescompleted during the final two years of the curriculum; or (b) having a gradepoint average of 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average ofthe required courses completed in the major field or the required courses inthe major field completed during the final two years of the curriculum; or, (3)Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.

Education can be substituted for experience.
