As a participant in the Pathways Recent Graduates Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Those duties will include:

Provide technical advice to users, examining and evaluating alternative means of satisfying user requirements, and suggesting technically feasible approaches to making recommendations regarding the most effective and efficient automation approaches.

Performs in-depth analysis of automated systems to accomplish design and programming assignment.

Prepare system documentation for complex assignments in accordance with agency standards.

Provides consultation and instruction on complex database and file accessing techniques, search strategies, database security procedures, and testing techniques.

Tests, installs, configures, and maintains networks including hardware (servers, hubs, bridges, switches, and routers) and software that permit the sharing and transmission of information.

Basic Requirement:

Specialized Experience:

 
For the GS-05, you must have at least one year of general experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-04 if outside the Federal service, is required.

 

General experience is defined as experience making solving problems and/or taking corrective actions to resolve network related issues.
 

For the GS-07, you must have at least one year of general experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-05 if outside the Federal service, is required.

 

Specialized experience is defined as experience assisting with the installation and maintenance of network systems used for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats.

For the GS-09, you must have at least one year of general experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-07 if outside the Federal service, is required.

 

Specialized experience is defined as experience with the configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems used for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats 

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirements, qualified applicants must also possess the quality of experience as it relates to how closely or to what extent an applicant's background, recency of experience, education, and training are relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the announced position.  Candidates must clearly demonstrate the possession of knowledge, skills and abilities, or competencies necessary to successfully perform the work of the position at the appropriate level to be qualified for the position.  Applicants must describe how their experience meets the competencies within the body of the resume.  No separate statements addressing KSA's or competencies are required.

 

Competencies:

 

  • Knowledge of Automated Data Processing (ADP) procedures and standards as they relate to limitations on design approach, coordination requirements, programming specifications and documentation.
  • Skill in performing a variety of staff assignments as they relate to Information Technology.
  • Ability to apply information technology principles, concepts, and methodologies to network services..

How You Will Be Evaluated:

Your application will be evaluated and rated under the Category Rating and Selection Procedures.   We will review your resume and supporting documentation and compare this information to your responses on the occupational questionnaire to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications for this job.   Please follow all instructions carefully.   Errors or omissions may affect your rating.

Eligible candidates will then be placed for selection consideration into 3 categories as described below:

1.   Qualified Category.   Meets the minimum qualifications and demonstrates minimum experience and/or training only based on responses to occupational questionnaire.

 

2.   Highly Qualified Category.   Meets the minimum qualification requirements and demonstrates full-performance level experience based on responses to occupational questionnaire.

 

3.   Best Qualified Category.   Meets the minimum qualification requirements and demonstrates experience as an expert in the field or recognized as a senior specialist, team lead, etc.

 

Application of Veterans Preference:   The Category Rating Method does not add veterans' preference points or apply the "rule of three," but protects the rights of veterans by placing them ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.   Preference eligible's who meet minimum qualification requirements and who have a compensable service-connected disability of at least 10 percent must be listed in the highest quality category, except when the position being filled is scientific or professional at the GS-9 grade level or higher.   A selecting official may make selections from the highest quality category (Best Qualified) provided no preference eligible in that category is passed over to select a non-preference eligible in that category unless the requirements of 5 U.S.C. 3317(b) or 3318(b) are satisfied.
