As an Operations Research Analyst in the Office of Program and Strategic Analysis, Office of Strategic Programs, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), the incumbent provides support to Center program activities that involve planning, designing and developing performance requirements and methodologies for conducting valid studies of major and complex systems and processes to assess relative performance utilizing management science.

·        Collects and analyzes scientific information from public and privates sources.

·        Utilizes operation research tools, techniques, and other quantitative methodologies.

·        Participates in the development, execution, and presentation of analytical models and research result to solve problems and improve program operations.

·        Conducts or participates in complex analyses of program policy and program operations.

·        Serves as part of a team of professional staff to identify, design, and conduct analyses of program operations and policy innovations.

In order to qualify for an Operations Research Analyst, GS-1515-11/12 you must meet the following Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification Requirement: 

 

Basic Requirement : You must possess a degree in operations research or a degree that included at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus (You must submit your transcript at time of application).

The following are examples of acceptable courses: optimization; mathematical modeling; queuing theory; engineering; physics (except descriptive or survey courses); econometrics; psychometrics; biometrics; experimental psychology; physical chemistry; industrial process analysis; managerial economics; computer science; measurement for management; mathematical models in social phenomena; and courses that involved application of operations research techniques and methodologies to problems of management, marketing, systems design, and other specialized fields; or other comparable quantitative analysis courses for which college-level mathematics or statistics is a prerequisite.

In addition to the meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet one of the following

Minimum Qualifications: 

GS-11: Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at the GS-09 in the Federal service that included participating in the development of Management Science models and concepts that help illuminate management issues and solve managerial problems; OR Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree. (Must provide transcript(s) at time of application submission); OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above. (Must provide transcript(s) at time of application submission).

GS-12: Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service that included developing and applying Management science models and concepts that help illuminate management issues and solve managerial problems.
