The Office of Personnel Management has identified the following minimum educational requirements for this position (1310/1320 series): An extensive knowledge of engineering principles and theory acquired typically through:
A) Successful completion of a degree in physics; or related degree that includes at least 24 semester hours in physics; or, I have a combination of education and experience demonstrated by coursework that is equivalent to a major in physics (at least 24 semester hours), plus appropriate experience or additional education.
B) Successful completion of a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics; or I have a combination of education and experience with course work that is equivalent to a major in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the minimum educational requirements above, applicants must have directly related education or experience as follows. In order to qualify for this position, you must have:
FOR THE ND-02 POSITION: Successfully completed the education requirements described in the Basic Education Requirements question above.
FOR THE ND-03 POSITION: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-02 (GS-05/07 equivalent), in the Federal service performing Professional Scientific work utilizing standard scientific principles, methods and practices to complete engineering work.
Examples of qualifying experience may include: accomplishing developmental assignments utilizing basic techniques, procedures, and methods; understanding and completing limited scientific designs and projects; or carrying out, interpreting, and explaining basic computations and calculations.
Education may be substituted for ND-03 specialized experience as follows:
· Successful completion of a masters or equivalent graduate degree.
· Successful completion of two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree.
· Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.
This position has Selective Placement Factors (screen-outs), which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing these Selective Placement Factors will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factors are:
· United States Citizenship.
· 18 years of age or older.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:

· Mentorship throughout the Program.

AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION:
Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances a term appointment lasting 1-4 years).
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
· Be a US Citizen.
· Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
· Demonstrated successful job performance.
· Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.
1) A high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum that has been approved by such a body or a State; and
2) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:
(i) A technical or vocational school;
(ii) A 2-year or 4-year college or university;
(iii) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or
(iv) A home-school curriculum
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
