ECHCS vision for 2015. VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (ECHCS) is complexity level 1a and provides a full range of state of the art patient care services. ECHCS provides tertiary care and services to over 72,000 patients and is a major referral center for veterans living in Wyoming, Montana, Kansas, and New Mexico. ECHCS serves as an educational and research center, it is highly affiliated with medical and educational institutions. Health Care Services are provided at 15 different geographically dispersed locations incorporating nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics, two Primary Care Tele-health Outpatient Clinics, one local and one remote Community Living Center, Homeless Veteran's Domiciliary, a Community Referral and Resource Center, a Poly-trauma and Blind Rehabilitation Center and VA presence on two DOD bases; Fort Carson and U.S. Air Force Academy covering a geographical area of over 10,000 square miles. ECHCS employs over 2,500 personnel in 150occupations.

The Urology Surgery Coordinator coordinates inpatient and outpatient nursing care for the urology patients. He/she establishes priorities toward achievement of patient goals. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care problems whose resolution results in significant improvement of nursing care to individual/groups of patients. Develops and implements programs to improve the delivery of nursing care.

Incumbent uses the nursing process to provide primary care for a specific group of patients. These responsibilities include independent functioning and ongoing collaboration with physicians, peers, and appropriate others on the health care team and within the community and referral agencies.

(1) The Urology Surgery Coordinator will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, collaborating, coordinating and evaluating the needs and care of patients.

(2) The Urology Surgery Coordinator demonstrates leadership in nursing by making a significant contribution to the profession through publication, consulting, development of media or scientific inquiry

(3) The Urology Surgery Coordinator identifies and achieves a professional self development plan.

(4) The Urology Surgery Coordinator interprets and communicates medical center policies to patients, families and/or significant others.

(5) The Urology Surgery Coordinator participates in or conducts patient care studies designed to improve patient care.

(6) The Urology Surgery Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates patient health educational programs specific to patients, families, or significant others.

(7) The Urology Surgery Coordinator demonstrates effective communication, and interpersonal relationships with patients and with patient's families or significant others, with co-workers, and with other health professionals.

Tour of Duty: Candidate must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.

·        Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.

·        Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.


·        Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience

·        Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN and no experience

·        Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

·        Nurse II- A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years’ experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years’ experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

·        Nurse III- Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years’ experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years’ experience.

Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

The criteria are as follows:

·        Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization;

·        Professional Development: performance, education/career development;

·        Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;

·        Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
