This is a Bargaining Unit position.

 

The Central Texas VA Healthcare System is currently seeking a part-time (.5) board certified/board eligible physician the position of Urologist at the Austin Outpatient Clinic.  Incumbent clinical duties will include diagnosing, treating and managing patients with urological diseases according to standard, usual and acceptable or customary methods and techniques in the outpatient setting. Other services include, but are not limited to, treatment of genitourinary medical conditions, perform cystoscopies and other non-OR office procedures, triaging consults, conferring with primary care providers as necessary to discuss appropriateness of consult requests and  provide consultations to patients. May also be required to attend meetings, and perform special assignments/projects when necessary.

The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) consists of two medical centers located in Temple and Waco, one stand-alone clinic in Austin, and four community based outpatient clinics in Brownwood, Cedar Park, College Station and Palestine.  Temple, a city of nearly 60,000 is located in Central Texas.  It is about 60 miles north of Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World, and 35 miles south of Waco, home of the Dr. Pepper Museum,  along Interstate 35.  It is approximately centered in a triangle formed by Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas-Ft. Worth.  Temple has it all - hometown friendliness with big-city opportunities, including substantial industries, world-famous medical centers, top-ranked educational institutions, exciting arts and cultural activities. CTVHCS is a teaching medical center, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.  Temple is home to one of Texas A&M Health Science centers, located within minutes of the hospital which provides residency and fellowship programs.  Temple is served by three major airports within a 120 miles radius and two small airports within a 60 mile radius.  There is also an Amtrak Station located in the historical downtown of Temple.  Central Texas is a great place to work, live, and raise a family.  There are many golf courses to enjoy year round and we are surrounded by several lakes and parks, including Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake.  We are also located on the edge of the Hill Country which boasts large lakes and great camping and hiking areas, such as Enchanted Rock, as well as great food and wine.  We are in the viewing areas of major sports franchises of Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio as well as surrounded by several well known universities including Texas A&M University at College Station, Baylor University in Waco, and The University of Texas at Austin.  There are many different school districts within 30 minutes of Temple ranging from small to large districts and many of them are rated by The Texas Education Agency as Exemplary or Recognized.  With Austin only 60 miles away, you can enjoy great live music, shopping, and food only a short distance away or if you would like a quick getaway, San Antonio, famous for the River Walk as well as the Alamo, is only a 2 hour drive.  Several amusement parks, water parks, and zoo’s surround Central Texas providing entertainment for all ages.  No state Income Tax!

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

·         Must be a citizen of the United States.

·         Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

·         Must be board certified/board eligible in Urology.

·         Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C 7402(d) and 7407(d).

·         Must have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.

·         Must have completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. 

 

SALARY DETERMINATIONS: Salaries will be determined by a Compensation Panel.
