The new Greenville VA Health Care Center is anticipated to serve 19,000 patients for specialty care. The new multispecialty Health Care Center is scheduled to begin operations in early 2014 building on a growing partnership with East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine. 

Greenville is home to 27,000 students who attend East Carolina University. ECU offers a wide range of cultural and sporting events, including musical concerts, theatrical and dance productions, travel films and lectures. The Greenville Museum of Art contains local art, as well as rotating exhibitions. Theater is beginning to emerge in Greenvile as well. Local groups such as the Greenville Theater Project and the Magnolia Arts Center offer outlets for both performers and audiences alike. Many restaurant offer live entertainment on the weekends. Uptown Greenville is a revitalization non-profit that promotes numerous events in the downtown district. The downtown area of Greenville is known for its large annual Halloween Street party.

TOUR OF DUTY:  8-4:30 M-F

As a Medical Support Assistant, you will provide centralized scheduling services to the Greenville Health Care Center. You will work collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care team including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, behavioral health staff, and other personnel to provide an interdisciplinary approach to care.  Your primary duties may include performing a variety of administrative support functions in connection with Veteran's eligiblity; benefits; care and treatment; responding to telephone calls from Veterans and other clients seeking services; and managing, monitoring and responding to emergency response notifications for medical emergencies. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Interacting with internal and external customers;
  • Establishing and maintaining medical outpatient and inpatient charts;
  • Establishing and maintaining administrative records;
  • Verifying and updating patient demographics;
  • Verifying and updating third party insurance information;
  • Obtaining medical information from patients;
  • Coordinating information and actions related to patient care and services;
  • Scheduling patient appointments in accordance with scheduling guidelines;
  • Retrieving appointment requests from an electronic wait list and calling patients to schedule appointments;
  • Preparing for clinic visits;
  • Ensuring encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit; and
  • Processing emergency and non-emergency transfers to other health care facilities.

  • Experience and Education.

Experience - Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicated the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.  OR

Education - One year above high school.  OR

Experience/Education Combination - Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. 





GS-03:  None beyond the basic requirements. 

GS-04:  One year of experience in clerical or office work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position OR two years of education above high school OR equivalent combination of experience and education.

GS-05:  One year of experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level OR four years of education above high school OR equivalent combination of experience and education.

NOTE:  A transcript must be submitted at the time of application when qualifying education is substituted for experience.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, but may require some walking, bending, stooping, standing, stretching and carrying objects such as files/binders. Work also requires spending time performing keyboarding duties.
