This position is located in the Division of Information Technology, Enterprise Technology Branch, Business Intelligence Service Center of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which provides support in the areas of a service delivery program for a business intelligence organization.

  • Works with end-users to define requirements for business intelligence (BI) applications and analysis to include identifying data sources, developing data acquisition strategies and plans, developing data quality metrics and plans, and defining and documenting business rules for data transformations, designing databases, and defining reports and analytical methods; assist with the establishment of policies, procedures, and guidelines for the creation and maintenance of corporate data; and provides technical guidance to DIT staff on topics of information management.  Provides assistance with the development of logical and physical data models, ETL scripts, metadata definitions and models, queries, and reports, schedules, work processes, and maintenance of procedures to reflect business requirements; maintains awareness of new developments in business intelligence, information management, enterprise architecture (EA) repository and registry, and IT industries.
  • Serves as the liaison between the DIT organization and corporate clients concerning storage and retrieval of information; plans analyzes, designs, and evaluates user information needs for database systems and data warehouse to support business requirements; and assists with studies and analyses to determine technological impact resulting from adoption of approved information systems standards.  Assist in the preparation of proposals for strategic planning, BI projects and related activities regarding corporate information issues; communicates technical requirements, issues and problems to all levels of management and both technical and non-technical personnel; and plans and directs and carries out technical analysis of business IT functions which may cross organization lines.

Candidates must possesses one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CG-12 grade level in Federal service in developing, or directly supporting, a service delivery program for a business intelligence organization, addressing customer needs, business requirements, and the development or deployment of solutions for a business intelligence organization.  

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
There is no substitution of education for the experience for this position.

1. Knowledge of principles and concepts of business intelligence, information resource management, relational database structures, database design, and data analysis.

2. Knowledge of Database Management Systems.

3. Ability to use modeling software to develop logical data models and build data warehouses, develop operating platforms, and perform metadata management.

4. Ability to perform data analysis and data administration to analyze management information needs, define business-oriented problems, and propose systemic solutions.

5. Knowledge and use of application development methodologies and data architecture, including information management standards and procedures.

6. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
