Participates in NASA's Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP). This is a formal training program consisting of rotational periods of study and work. Specialized training is designed to accelerate an employee to the full performance level. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program. Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress and sign a Pathways Agreement.

To be eligible for this position, you must:
• Be a U.S. citizen;
• Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment;
• Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution;
• Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution; and
• Have and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a 4.0 scale).

The grade level you qualify for is based on education so you must include your academic status (first year graduate, second year graduate, and/or PhD program), number of cumulative hours, projected graduation date, and cumulative GPA.

GS-7 - Completion of 4 academic years of study for a bachelor's degree and accepted into a master's
program.

GS-9 - Completion of 1 academic year of master's level education or acceptance into a Doctoral program.

GS-11 - Completion of 1 year of doctorate level study.

Successful completion of a standard professional curriculum in an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree or higher with major study in engineering (not engineering technology), physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.

This is an appointment expected to last for more than 1 year. Interns may work schedules not to exceed 1,040 hours per year (part-time or full-time on an intermittent basis). The supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study, usually a semester, a summer, or a quarter in length. Interns must complete 640 hours of work in order to be eligible for conversion to the competitive service.

You will be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify. Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable performance, however, promotions are not guaranteed.

This announcement is being used to create an inventory of qualified applicants for Student Trainee (Engineering) positions and will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies.

There will be several cut-off dates established during the open period of this announcement which will be used to create referral lists. Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they:

• Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
• Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and
• Maintain acceptable performance.
