You will: Independently analyze complex environmental samples for the determination of environmental parameters and contaminants.  Provides technical assistance based on the analysis of environmental samples.  Interprets and evaluates data for its significance, including validating findings and methods. Communicates findings orally and in writing. Develops and implements Laboratory Quality Control System requirements.

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described
below:

To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full
time experience defined as...experience conducting microbiological assays in a laboratory setting  AND  experience analyzing complex or unprecedented samples which may require methods development or modifications AND performing PCR amplification of DNA.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your
competencies in the following areas:  
- Knowledge of biology-based quality control procedures for laboratories.  - Ability to plan, initiate and analyze laboratory samples for environmental contaminants  -  Knowledge of laboratory standard operating procedures .  - Ability to use laboratory instruments to identify environmental contaminants. - Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data.  - Ability to communicate scientific data orally and in writing.  -Knowledge of EPA's Environmental Management System.


A bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must meet time in grade requirements no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement. This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation.  Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
