National Guard Membership is Required : This is an excepted position that REQUIRES membership in a compatible military assignment in the South Carolina Army National Guard for consideration . This position is located in the South Carolina Army National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters—State, Logistics Directorate (J-4/G-4), State Surface Maintenance Management Office.  The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Army National Guard (ARNG) Surface Maintenance Manager.  Provides management direction, control, and accountability for ARNG surface maintenance programs and activities.  These consist of, but are not limited to, the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS), Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site (MATES), Unit Training Equipment Site (UTES), and Field Maintenance Shops (FMS).  Work requires comprehensive managerial knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices involving ARNG surface maintenance facilities, equipment, and services.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.



SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least Thirty-six months (3) years of specialized experience. Specialized experience must include knowledge sufficient to prepare initial project scopes, descriptions, and justifications for necessary facility modifications when infrastructure capabilities cannot support valid mission requirements.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of and skill in applying a comprehensive range of principles, concepts, and practices concerning equipment, facilities, and service operations with complicated technical requirements.

2. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors.

5. Ability to research, analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.

6. Ability to recognize/analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations relative to multi-faceted projects of issues.

Substitution for Education for Specialized Experience: A maximum of 12 months of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of undergraduate study in an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester hours.  The education must have been in fields directly related to the type of work of the position.

  • Employees selected for full-time positions that require mandatory training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) will have 12 months from the date of hire to complete the required course(s). Failure to complete NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC for new personnel within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment or termination.
