Promotion to the Full Performance Level: The career ladder promotion potential of this position is the GS-06 level. However, this position may be filled at a lower grade. If so, when and if it is determined that a subsequent promotion is warranted, it may be made without further competition. Promotion up to and including the GS-06 level is neither guaranteed nor automatic.
Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval. 

Relocation expenses are authorized with the exception of the Guaranteed Home Sale Provision. First-post-of-Duty relocation expenses are authorized for new appointment or reinstatement eligibles.

You will ultimately:
- Prepare drawings utilizing a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) system from various forms of information. Information varies from verbal instructions and rough field data to layout drawings prepared by engineers from all disciplines.
- Prepare drawings to show new installation, survey data, and other graphical representations.
- Prepare revised original transparencies of drawings and check revisions for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist, on occasion, engineers and/or technicians from the division in the collection, analyses, and display of field data on various projects.

GS-4: 6 months of general AND 6 months of specialized experience    OR
Successful completion of 2 years of post secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. At least 3 of the 12 semester hours must have been in drafting.   

General experience is defined as:  Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the work of this position or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area.

Specialized experience is defined as:  Technical work which demonstrated basic knowledge of a variety of drafting software and equipment, ability to maintain accurate records of drawings, and selecting and applying appropriate standards in the creation of drawings.

GS-5: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 in federal service.    OR

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree that included major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology OR that included 24 semester hours in a combination of courses (i.e., engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics).  At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting.       OR

A combination of post secondary education and specialized experience as defined in this section.

Specialized experience is defined as: Utilizing simple computer applications, including but not limited to spreadsheets, project scheduling programs, CADD drawings, and database applications; the preparation of data, charts, graphs and tables to update, compile, report, and archive hydrographic data and information.

GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 in federal service.  

Specialized experience is defined as, experience in methods and practices of drafting techniques sufficient to produce engineering drawings involving original, novel and/or complex designs. 

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.


This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement. If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories: A) Best Qualified, B) Well Qualified, and C) Qualified. WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
