This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians  (ARTs) are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy ART positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.


Retired military are usually ineligible for membership in the Air Force Reserve. Retired military personnel who have active Air Force Reserve assignments may apply provided they show assignment (position and unit) on their application.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as a computer assistant, providing client information services which include end user support in resolving day to day technical client systems problems.  As such, the incumbent will provide client information services, including information systems devices, applications configuration, installation and maintenance of hardware; client sofware applications to include installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software.


Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:  

• Administer Information Systems.

• Install and maintain hardware and act as equipment custodian (EC) for Information Technology (IT) assets, in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions.

• Install, upgrade, and maintain software.

• Schedule, advise, and provide technical assistance to computer system users on a wide variety of computer software and hardware issues.

• Assist with the administration of the overall computer security program.

• Provide training assistance to customers.

You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in General Schedule or qualifying pay band under the other pay systems in the Federal service performing work which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is directly related to carrying out all functions associated with client information services, including information systems devices, applications configuration, installation and maintenance of hardware; client sofware applications to include installation, upgrade, and maintenance of software. Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.  (3) May require to work uncommon tour of duty (4) Information Assurance (IA) Certification is a condition of employment.  This position includes IA work as a paramount duty requirement; the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. (5) This may be a drug testing designated position.  Incument may be subject to random drug testing.  (6) Position may require a background security investigation to determine suitabilty and/or a security clearance. (7) The work is generally sedentary, although there will be some recurring periods of maintaining, performing repairs, and installing equipment which may require employee to lift computer equipment, stand, walk, stretch, bend, reach, and stoop for short periods of time, requiring only moderate physical ability and physical stress.

(2) Ability to analyze computer software and/or hardware problems and develop economical solutions. (3) Knowledge of Internet security, network environment, network configurations, sharing and securing network resources. (4) Knowledge of a variety of computers and computer related equipment, software, and hardware in order to install upgrade, configure, and maintain equipment and software.  (5) Ability to troubleshoot any and all hardware and software related problems.
