JOB SUMMARY:

A career with the Forest Service will challenge you to manage and care for more than 193 million acres of our nation's most magnificent lands, conduct research through a network of forest and range experiment stations and the Forest Products Laboratory, and provide assistance to State and private forestry agencies.

This is a Support Services Specialist position and is responsible for accomplishing a variety of support services including but not limited to the following: procurement of administrative supplies and equipment, tracking budget expenses, personnel processing printing and mail service, space management, records and correspondence management.

At the target grade, supervises and manages the support organization program, office facility and employees. Performs the overall work planning, establishes work schedules, sets priorities, assigns and reviews work, approves leave requests, sets performance standards and evaluates performance. 

Reviews, edits, monitors and organizes budget requests. Ensures procurement requests include all pertinent information. Verifies purchase order receipts and follow up on invoices and other payment documents. Oversees the contract compliance for unit maintenance, security, janitorial, general repairs, unit housing repairs, etc.

Provides advice and guidance to district staff on procurement and human resources regulations and policies.

Prepares, reviews and processes correspondence, reports and forms; hard copy and electronic filing, mail procedures.

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

 

GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level.

Examples of specialized experience are: prepared requisitions for office supplies, equipment, support services and maintenance services; maintained hardcopy & electronic filing; responded to non-technical requests for information; kept unit employees aware of personnel policies and regulations.

GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level; one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example Business Administration); and/or combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Examples of specialized experience are: Analyzed costs, procurement for annual operating budget reporting; purchased supplies, equipment and services through open market purchase by blanket agreement, cash or official credit card; maintained official files; reviewed correspondence for grammatical accuracy.

This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire.
