This position is located in the Office of Information and Resource Management, Division of Information Systems, Infrastructure Services Branch. The IT Specialist serves as expert on IT Infrastructure projects that have major impact in facilitating the mission of NSF and will manage project teams with emphasis on the systems analysis required for the planning and design of new or improved information systems.More about NSF.
The IT Specialist has the primary responsibility for leading a team of IT Specialists and support personnel in the execution of a wide range of IT infrastructure projects that involve application of IT concepts and principles to assure that the NSF IT Infrastructure is fully integrated. Applies analytical processes to the planning, design, and implementation of new and improved information systems to meet the business requirements of customer organizations.
Specific duties the IT Specialist will perform:
- Personally, or through team efforts, performs requirements analysis for new or improved IT Infrastructure solutions; consults with customers to identify and specify requirements and develops overall functional and systems requirements and specifications; conducts feasibility studies and trade-off analyses and preparing business cases for the application of IT solutions; recommends new or modified infrastructure systems, defining system scope and objectives, developing cost estimates ensuring the integration of all system components and planning systems implementation; ensures the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices.
- Articulates and communicates to the team the assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and time frames for completion. Prepares progress reports for higher-level management and makes recommendations for adjustment to project scope and schedule.
- Leads the team by identifying individual tasks considering the established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; monitors accomplishments and takes action necessary to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks.
- Provides input to the Service Area Manager on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks/work processes, and individual training needs.
