As a condition of employment your position will be a Mixed Tour. Mixed Tour is a combination of full time, part time and intermittent work schedules which allows the best utilization of resources based on the requirements of the organization. You will be required to sign a mixed tour agreement.

Once selected, you may be sent to any vessel nationwide. There is no guarantee that you will be assigned to any particular vessel or geographic location, however, your duty location will be determined by your home of record or ship's home port. Current duty locations are Norfolk, VA; Charleston, SC; Woods Hole, MA; Pascagoula, MS; Newport,OR; Kodiak, AK; Ketchikan, AK; Honolulu, HI; San Diego, CA; Davisville, RI.

One Year Trial period may be required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Applicant must have a valid USGC License with proper endorsement.
  • Applicant must meet physical requirements prior to appointment.
  • Applicant must pass drug testing prior to appointment.
  • Applicant must be able to obtain and hold a US Passport.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov).

The individual selected for this position will:

*Perform engineering systems maintenance and repair work.
*Have overall responsibility for engineering systems that may be assigned to him/her.
*Keep required records, logs, and reports. Stands engine room watches at sea or in port as required. As engineer-in-charge directs the activities of assigned engineering watch personnel.
*Stand security watch and/or quarterdeck watch.
*Assist in ship fueling operations.
*Perform other mission-related duties as assigned including duties related to safety of the vessel and personnel.

There is no positive education requirement for this position.

You may substitute Education for Experience:
   
Successful completion of full-time study in related subjects at a vocational school above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one month from each month of experience for a maximum of one year.
 

To be determined qualified for this position:  Applicants must have one year of experience as an Oiler and/or Engine Utilityman Experience must have provided the applicant with a good understanding of auxiliary equipment operation and repair. Experience does not necessarily have to have been gained aboard ship but should show competence in those types of equipment with which he/she will normally work aboard ship. Examples of specialized experience are those which performs engineering systems maintenance and repair work or stands engine room watches at sea or in port as required.

Applicant must possess a current valid USCG Merchant Mariners Credential or Document endorsed with the Unlicensed Junior Engineer or Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) - any Unlicensed Rating in the engine department.
