National Guard Membership is Required : This is an excepted position that REQUIRES membership in a compatible military assignment in the South Carolina Army National Guard for consideration . Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

INTRODUCTION

This position is located in the Joint Force Headquarters – South Carolina Army National Guard, Public Affairs Office (PAO)..  The primary purpose of the position is to assist the state’s Public Affairs (PA) Officer at the strategic and operational level, with particular emphasis on developing segments of more complicated or sensitive communications campaigns and executing the National Guard Bureau’s (NGB’s) communication objectives.

Applicants must have 36 Months of specialized experience which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

*** Experience in developing, coordinating, and implementing press events dealing with American art history, culture, and non-American sources.

*** Experience in conceiving, writing, and preparing for print and online publication articles and/or pamphlets for customer distribution to internal and external audiences by analyzing materials based on artistic merit and curatorial focus.

***Experience in consulting on the style, design and layout aspects of the written, oral and visual materials, writes and reviews media releases to cultivate productive relationship with members of the press and of arts, cultural and educational organizations.
 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs) and other characteristics and must be supported by information in your resume:

1. Ability to plan and develop media relations and external education outreach programs

2. Ability to initiate and implement social media strategies

3. Ability to convey information concerning complex programs and functions to the public

4. Ability to communicate in writing

5. Ability to analyze information and make recommendations

6. Ability to handle sensitive information with the news media and public


Substitution for Education for Specialized Experience: A maximum of 12 months of the required experience may be substituted by successful completion of undergraduate study in an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester hours.  The education must have been in fields directly related to the type of work of the position.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • Employees selected for full-time positions that require mandatory training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) will have 12 months from the date of hire to complete the required course(s). Failure to complete NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC for new personnel within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment or termination. 
  • Enlisted Cash Bonuses: Acceptance of a technician position may affect any bonus and/or educational assistance that may be applicable. Your bonus may be terminated and repayment may be required. 
  • This position is NOT authorized Relocation Incentives, Retention Incentives, Recruitment Bonuses and/or PCS costs.
