The Vaccine Research Center (VRC) is an intramural research component of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a component of the National Institutes of Health. The mission of the VRC is to conduct basic, translational, and clinical research dedicated to improving public health through discovery, design, and development of vaccines of public health importance. VRC scientific staff have expertise in immunology, virology, structural biology, pathogenesis, laboratory animal medicine, regulatory science, clinical research, bio-engineering, and vaccinology. The Center's primary focus is to develop a vaccine against HIV/AIDS, with concomitant efforts directed against biodefense and emerging/re-emerging infectious diseases. The VRC has also created and utilizes specialized capabilities to quickly manufacture clinical grade vaccine products, utilizing a Vaccine Pilot Plant in Frederick, MD. In addition, the VRC has created the NIAID Vaccine Immune T-Cell and Antibody Laboratory (NVITAL), which performs key end-point immune assays according to FDA guidelines on GLP. If selected, you will execute all aspects of management, budgetary, and operational activities of the Center (comparable responsibilities of a COO/CFO in the private sector).
