JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) Programs team is to maximize the physical, emotional and social development of the Navy family. FFR enables a ready Navy force through its Fleet Readiness, Family Readiness and Housing Programs. We service all non-appropriated fund (NAF) employees who work for Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) and Bachelor Housing (BH) throughout the Fleet and Family Readiness Program for the Naval District Washington (NDW) Region.

    Caregiver (Educational Aid/Educational Technician) provides appropriate care and instruction for children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years old at CDCs or up to 12 years old at Austin’s Room and 24/7 Center.  Interacts with children using approved child guidance and development techniques as provided by supervisors. Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children.  Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.  Duties may include assisting in the child’s arrival and departure from the center, diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, etc.; developing and assisting with games and learning activities; observing and evaluating development levels and maintaining records and other related duties.

    QUALIFICATIONS: All levels require incumbent to be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent; have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, as well as follow verbal and written instructions; have the ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team; and complete all training requirements within specified time frames.  In addition to the above:

    Educational Aid (Entry): Prior experience working with children and/or youth preferred.  This position is an entry position leading to the full performance position.  Incumbent is promoted upon completion of required training and evaluation.  Duties of this position are developmental in nature. 

    Educational Aid (Intermediate): 6 months experience working with children/youth in a child/youth setting AND completion of child abuse modules and DoN Modules 1, 2, & 10. This is the intermediate position leading to the full performance position.  Incumbent is promoted upon completion of required training and evaluation.

    Educational Technician (Assistant - Full Performance): completion of DoN Modules AND 12 months experience working with children/youth OR a CDA, MSA, OR 2 year degree in a related field.  This is the full performance position.  Incumbent uses Creative Curriculum and develops and implements schedules and activity plans based on the observed needs of the children.

    This position is subject to special inoculation and immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children.  Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.  This is a test designated position: in accordance with Depoartment of the Navy Test Designated Position listing issued 7 October 2003, this position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment.  A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.  Must pass a pre-employment physical with ability to lift up to 40 lbs, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable disease.  Incumbents must satisfactorily complete all background checks, including a NACI.  Must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials.

    HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

    Applicants must submit proof of education with their application (high school diploma or GED and any additional supporting documentation). We will only accept high school diplomas from state accredited high schools and/or college transcripts from institutions accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Documents in a foreign language must be professionally translated into English. Applicants who fail to provide proof of education with their resume will be disqualified from further consideration.     All resumes will be evaluated beginning 5 mailing days after the vacancy closing date. Applicants will be screened in or out using basic qualifications required by the position.  Those applicants screened in will then be rated and scored on his/her experience related to factors from the position description.  After all applicants have been rated and ranked, hiring managers will give HRO a cut-off score.  Those applicants with that score and higher will be referred for an interview.  Those applicants with lower than the cutoff score will receive letters of non-selection.  All applicants will be notified of their status throughout the process.

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    Due to Command policy on employee parking, employment does not guarantee a parking space on the installation. Metro is highly encouraged.

    WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
