Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP).

Type of Appointment: This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent dual-status, position which requires Georgia Army National Guard membership.

Job Summary: This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters—State, Logistics Directorate (J-4/G-4), State Surface Maintenance Management Office.  The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and assistance to state unit personnel regarding Army National Guard (ARNG) equipment and maintenance management.  Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment is required.

Background Check:  Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership: This position requires military membership. It is designated for Georgia Army National Guard Officer,  Warrant Officer and Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with ARNG regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military Equipment Specialist functions in support of programs essential to state Army National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Army National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Army National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a current U.S. Citizen.
  • Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.
  • Direct Deposit Banking is Mandatory.
  • Military Requirement: OBR: 88A, 90A, 91A or 92A; WOBR: 91, 92, 94;
  • WMOS: 882A; ECMF: 88, 91, 92 or 94.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Serves as a recognized authority on the repair and operation of various types of ARNG equipment. 
  • Provides instruction and assistance regarding equipment maintenance procedures, techniques, and methods as a part of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT).
  • Provides advice, assistance, and guidance regarding maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reduction programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities. 
  • Receives reviews, and processes unit Army Material Status System (AMSS) reports and Missile Material Readiness reports and submits a consolidated report to the Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA).
  • Prepares and conducts both classroom and on-the-job training designed to upgrade, improve, and/or update the knowledge and working skills of unit maintenance personnel. 
  • Evaluates training progress in areas such as basic mechanic principles; theories of equipment repair and modification; compliance with established procedures and directives; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; and proper utilization of equipment, personnel, funds, and facilities.
  • Evaluates directives to ensure adherence to standard methods, conformity in maintenance procedures, and the proper use of maintenance equipment, facilities, and personnel.
  • Reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment and maintenance management and needs for improvement of existing practices and the impact on the overall maintenance program. 
  • Performs assistance visits to logistic and maintenance functional areas to provide guidance and assistance to ensure effective and smooth maintenance operations.
  • Performs hands on maintenance procedures to personnel on proper trade techniques, practices, and explains safety precautions involved in maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General Experience: Applicant must have experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more classes of equipment.  The experience must include knowledge of standard shop terminology. A basic knowledge of mechanical principles relating to equipment. Experience must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blue prints and technical publications. Knowledge is of the type gained from technical training, education, and experience in functions such as repairing, overhauling, maintaining, constructing, or inspecting equipment. Experience using computer and automation systems.

Specialized Experience: Applicant must have at least 24 months specialized experience which provided knowledge and skill in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment design.  Experience in the use of tools and test equipment. Experience developing, installing, inspecting or revising equipment maintenance programs and techniques.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of equipment maintenance and management of a variety of ARNG equipment sufficient to provide advice, assistance, and guidance to unit personnel.
  • Knowledge of the full range of ARNG equipment standards, policies, regulations, and methods sufficient to review the effectiveness and efficiency of equipment maintenance and training; and the need for improving existing practices that impact the overall equipment and maintenance program.
  • Ability to instruct and provide classroom training involving equipment repair and modification; requirements for equipment maintenance records and reports; proper utilization and maintenance of equipment and facilities, etc.
  • Knowledge of and ability to oversee equipment programs, maintenance management systems, material readiness programs, cost reductions programs, and maintenance shop practices in maintenance facilities.

 


Other Requirements: For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must posses or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. 

For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, applicants must have a valid State driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

National Guard Compatibility: Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician Equipment Specialist position, the selectee must be assigned to any unit in the Georgia Army National Guard as an Officer, Warrant Officer or Enlisted member in OBR: 88A, 90A, 91A or 92A; WOBR: 91, 92, 94;WMOS: 882A; ECMF: 88, 91, 92 or 94.  Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Army uniform as prescribed by AR/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.
