Position Location:  JFHQ-J6/DOIM, CNGC, Marietta, Georgia.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS):  (PCS) is not authorized.

Relocation Incentive: Relocation Incentive is not authorized.

Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP): Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP).

Type of Appointment:  This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual-status position which requires Georgia National Guard Membership.  

Job Summary:  This position is located in an information management organization.  The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary interface between the incumbent’s assigned organization and all information systems customers associated with the C4 mission.  Responsible for management of the organization’s customer support help desk and maintenance of the workload accounting database using help desk software.

Background Check:  Selectee may, at the option of the agency, be required to submit to criminal, credit history, and general background checks which will be evaluated by the agency prior to a final offer of employment and access into the Georgia National Guard Federal Technician or Active Guard/Reserve program.

National Guard Membership:  This position requires military membership. It is designated for Georgia Army or Air National Guard Officer/Warrant Officer/Enlisted incumbent(s) only. In accordance with AF and ARNG regulations, incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish military IT Specialist (CUSTSPT) functions in support of programs essential to state Army National Guard daily operations, training and readiness missions.

As a member of a Georgia Air National Guard unit, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Georgia Air National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.

  • Must be a current U.S. Citizen.
  • Under 5 USC 2108 & 5 CFR 211, Veteran's Preference criteria does not apply.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required of this position:

  • Serves as a technical expert on all supported automated systems utilized throughout the state.
  • Develops and maintains the customer service database for all service requests.
  • Performs intensive collection and analysis of data from the customer service database to create trend reports, performance reports, and future requirements for all areas of Information Management.
  • Researches trends and patterns to implement new or improved communications methods and procedures.
  • Conducts site surveys for information systems designed to verify adequacy of network operations and ensure customer needs are met.
  • Installs and maintains hardware devices supporting a broad range of information systems employing multiple network and local operating systems and highly sophisticated client server software.
  • Installs and configures workstation or network operating systems, and applications software on a wide range of configurable information systems devices.
  • Performs operational tests on equipment in test array or operational configuration prior to issue or installation to ensure proper operation and absence of hardware, software, device or network conflicts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General Experience:  Must have experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process.  Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

Specialized Experience:  Must have a minimum of 36 months specialized experience that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization.  Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls.  Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment.   Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where it involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):   Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the Selecting Official based on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Knowledge of customer service and support principles and methods sufficient to manage the customer support help desk operations involving the delivery of a full range of customer support services to all serviced organizations.
  • Knowledge of network configuration techniques, computer equipment and assigned system software to determine source of failures.
  • Knowledge of current state-of-the-art system software to include operating systems as well as functional application software.
  • Knowledge of how the hardware, software and network infrastructure related to the serviced systems along with an understanding of how they integrate together sufficient to analyze problems reported to distinguish between hardware, software, network and user-related problems.
  • Skill in providing staff advice, planning, user assistance/training and evaluation services and functions within each specialty area.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of applications, operating systems, protocols, and equipment used in customer organizations, and methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving current computer systems throughout the state and troubleshooting techniques for all hardware and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of communications concepts, principles, and practices as well as telecommunications operating techniques, digital and analog communications requirements.
  • Skill in identification, isolation and correction of complex workstation and network system faults.  Skill in identifying and resolving conflicts between workstations, network and peripheral devices; skill in adapting existing software to advanced systems; and skill in adapting multiple devices to operate from individual workstations or as network devices.


Other Requirements:  For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

National Guard Compatibility:  Once an applicant is selected and prior to being placed in the technician position, the selectee must be assigned to a compatible unit in the Georgia Air National Guard as an  Enlisted member in AFSC: 33XX or 3C0XX.  Rank inversion is strictly prohibited.

Wear of the Air uniform as prescribed by AF/NGB/GA NGR is required for incumbent of this position.  Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with this requirement as a condition of employment.
