Incumbent will perform three to four Compensation & Pension examinations and Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) examinations one day per week, or more depending on mission requirements.  Position requires strong assessment skills, ability to follow required criteria given in Disability Benefit Questionnaire Forms (DBQ), as well as addressing general remarks from Veterans Benefits Administration.  Incumbent must acquire proficiency in forensic exams. 

 

This position is fee basis which is an as-needed basis.  No benefits (annual leave, sick leave, health insurance, life insurance or retirement) come with this position.  Fee basis employees do not have status as a VA employee and this position does not confer competitive status. 

NOTE:  The Psychologist would receive $200 per exam under this Fee Basis Appointment.  Exams vary from 1 to 3 hours in length.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:   

a.  Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States.  (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)

b.  Education.              

     (a)  Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).  The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.  AND

     (b)  Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.  Exceptions:  (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.

c.  Licensure.  Hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light lifting (under 15 lbs), light carrying (under 15 lbs), use of fingers, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, working closely with others, and working alone.
