The Associate Nurse Executive (ANE) for Acute Care (AC) is a senior nursing leadership position at the Atlanta VA Medical Center that reports to the Associate Director, Nursing/Patient Care Services. This individual executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and/or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes. The ANE-AC is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned nursing units/programs. Functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Nursing/Patient Care Services and other services. The ANE-AC must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Key relationships with staff are needed to (1) Assist nurse managers and advanced practitioners to carry out the functions and activities expected of them, (2) Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide, (3) Assist in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs, and (4) Collaborate with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.

 

Major responsibilities include coordination and evaluation of integrated programs that cross service lines/disciplines and influence the organization's mission, vision and strategic priorities. This individual has responsibility for nineteen direct reports to include Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Leaders, Wound Care Nurses, and Administrative staff who have responsibility for the 24/7 units.  Additionally, the ANE, Acute Care collaborates with interdisciplinary team members including other program and service leaders at the local, network and national levels.

Citizen of the United States.  Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:  The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).  Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.  In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.    Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.     Education/Experience Requirements: 

 

  • Nurse IV - BSN, with MSN or Master's in related field or MSN from Bridge Program (no BSN required) or Doctoral degree nursing or related field.

 

Preferred Education/Experience: BSN and  Master's Degree in Nursing or related field and five years of progressive clinical and leadership experience with demonstrated knowledge and expertise in administration.

Credentialing: Individuals selected for positions having patient care responsibilities are subject to undergoing an electronic credentialing process called VetPro.
