This position is located in the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service (MH&BSS) of the Robley Rex VAMC. This full time position consists of a psychologist that participates in a full range of psychotherapeutic, diagnostic and training activities under the supervision of the Supervisory Psychologist in the Mental Health & Behavioral Science Service. S/he is responsible for the provision of both Substance Use Disorders (SUD) treatment and Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) services at the Ft Knox CBOC. As part of a multidisciplinary substance use disorder treatment team, this psychologist performs substance use disorder assessments, level of care determinations, evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy for substance use disorders as well as collaborative treatment planning and program development. As part of the Primary Care-Mental Health (PC-MHI) team, this psychologist is co-located within the primary care clinic and performs collaborative crisis/risk assessment, general assessment, triage, and brief therapy services as part of the medical primary care team. Their responsibilities also include care management services, to include baseline screening report interpretation and follow-up care management with the Behavioral Health Lab VISN 09 Call Center support.

S/he may participate in the supervision of psychology students at various levels or training and will serve as consultant to other disciplines in the area of behavioral and mental health. S/he also participates in the professional activities of the Mental Health & Behavioral Science Service and the Medical Center at the direction or approval of the Senior Supervisory Psychologist and, ultimately, the Chief of Mental Health. These activities may include, but are not necessarily limited to: administrative committees of Mental Health and/or the Medical Center, continuing education, training, research, and treatment/program evaluation. S/he functions as a member of the Louisville VAMC Medical Staff with full clinical privileges. He/she complies with all documentation and coding procedures, as well as national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.

PRIMARY DUTY STATION: This position will work from Fort Knox Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) with some travel to the Louisville VA Medical Center and other CBOCs within the community as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8-4:30.

Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary, but it requires periods of walking, standing, bending, or climbing and employee may carry light items such as books, instruments, lap tops and other similar materials. Light Lifting (under 15 pounds); Light Carrying (Under 15 pounds); Near vision correctable at 13” to 16”; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted). The candidate selected must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination prior to appointment.
