The Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center is a 673-bed tertiary healthcare facility which provides care to over 100,000 veterans in northern Ohio. We provide care through our main medical facility at the Wade Park campus, 13 community based outpatient clinics, and 3 vet centers. The medical center has been recognized for more programs of excellence than any other Veterans Affairs Medical Center. These programs of excellence include: Open Heart Surgery, Care of the Seriously Mentally Ill, Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Substance Abuse Care, Spinal Cord Injury Care, Medical Care of the Homeless, Domiciliary Care of the Homeless, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Advance Platform Technology, Primary Care Education, and Patient-Centered Specialty Care Education. The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist will function in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. The Physical Therapist duties will include:

  • Evaluates, develops a treatment program, and establishes goals based on evaluation findings
  • Implements and modifies treatment plan and goals as necessary to assure optimum outcome
  • The physical therapist must perform documentation of patient care, including progress notes, daily attendance records, and reports (monthly, safety, and others)
  • Provides expertise regarding their specialty area in planning for delivery of physical therapy to patients
  • Acts as a resource person to staff, students, and other health care professionals
  • Acts as the representative of Physical Therapy on interdisciplinary teams of their specialty when needed
  • Consults with patients and their families to educate them about the disability and instruct them in home exercise programs
  • Participates in the development and implementation of quality assurance monitors, and other studies as needed
  • Demonstrates the competency to treat young adults to geriatric patients

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, rotating weekends and holidays

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

U.S. citizenship. Must be a graduate of a degree program from an accredited Physical Therapy program. Education and clinical practice program must have been approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and have been completed at an accredited college or university. Graduates of foreign physical therapy programs meet the requirements if they have a full unrestricted and current license to practice physical therapy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a state or territory of the United States.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

To qualify at the GS-7 level:

None beyond the basic requirements above.

To qualify at the GS-9 level:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, candidates must have 1 year of post degree progressively responsible experience equivalent to the next lower grade OR a master's degree in physical therapy or a directly related field. In addition, candidates must fully demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (KSAOs): 1) Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics, kinesiology, psychology, pathophysiology and surgical procedures as they relate to human function; 2) Knowledge of and ability to apply clinically appropriate assessment techniques and treatment interventions to address human pathophysiology and dysfunction; 3) Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professions.

To qualify at the GS-11 level:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience and a broader scope of experience equivalent to the next lower grade; OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree; OR doctoral degree in physical therapy or a directly related field. In addition to meeting the KSAOs described at the GS-9 level, the candidate must fully demonstrate the following KSAOs: 1) Knowledge of contemporary and evidence-based PT practice; 2) Ability to interpret clinician prescriptions and referrals;3) Skill in communicating, both orally and in writing, with patients, families, caregivers, and other health care professions to facilitate the multidisciplinary treatment process; 4) Skill in utilizing appropriate screening and evaluation techniques required to appropriately provide direct patient care; 5) Knowledge of clinical signs and symptoms to make appropriate referrals for further medical attention/assessment as indicated.
