SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual selective placement factors are a current certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential from the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Failure to possess one of these factors WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume or submitting a copy of the certification with your application.
IN ADDITION TO THE SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR, APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience using medical terminology to include diagnoses, procedures, tests, pharmaceuticals, operations, psychological and other specialty terms.
- Experience using medical reference materials.
- Experience reading and interpreting medical information from hand written notes.
- Experience utilizing outpatient or inpatient abstract coding.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience utilizing ICD-9-CM, CPT, and E&M coding or equivalent to reflect the patient's condition/diagnosis/problem.
- Experience identifying erroneous data from medical records such as documentation discrepancies, missing information and providing corrective action.
- Experience communicating orally to orient medical staff in regards to coding and documentation policies and procedures.
- Experience applying policies and procedures for completion of patient records, audits and committee assistance.
