United States Citizens, who are
* Enrolled in a degree-seeking program in a qualifying educational institution; and
* Majoring in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing or related; and
* Taking at least a half-time course load; and
* Maintaining a cumulative (overall) GPA of at least 3.0/4.0; and
* Graduating after December 1, 2014.

The applicant selected will be offered a position in the FDIC Pathways Internship Program. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on the FDIC's needs, the selectee may be non-competitively converted to a Term position as a Financial Institution Specialist based upon an evaluation of performance and completion of various skills assessments. However, service in the Financial Institution Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

The Intern will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate bank operations, business planning, risk management strategies, and consumer protection practices during a period in which banks are still recovering from the stress of the recent financial crisis. These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are following safe and sound banking practices, maintaining effective controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending.

Applicants must
* Be seeking a bachelor or higher degree at an accredited college/university with a major in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing, or other fields related to the position;
* Have completed two full academic years of post-high school study  toward the degree; and
* Have completed 3 semester hours in accounting by December 2013; and
* Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 at their current college. 

Low Risk Position - National Agency Check Investigation (NACI) required.


Applicants must meet the OPM qualification standards.  Applicants must be in good academic standing with at least a cumulative (overall) 3.0 GPA.

* A one-time $2500 stipend (in addition to salary) at the beginning of the program.


Relocation expenses will not be paid. 
You will be responsible for the following:
  *  your own expenses to get to Billings, MT;
  *  providing your own housing;
  *  providing your own transportation to bank examination sites (public transportation may not be available).
Extensive overnight travel may be required.  Bank examinations are conducted on-site at banks, sometimes at great distance from the FDIC office.
You will be reimbursed for job travel expenses.
If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.
All selectees must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service, you must complete 640 hours of work experience; meet the OPM qualification standards for the target position, which includes six (6) semester hours in accounting coursework; meet the requirements of the FDIC Pathways Agreement and successfully perform; and complete various skills assessments.
