JOB SUMMARY:

The mission of the U.S. International Boundary & Water Commission is to provide binational solutions to issues that arise during the application of United States - Mexico treaties regarding boundary demarcation, national ownership of waters, sanitation, water quality, and flood control in the border region.

The employee serves as an armed Public Safety Officer and member of a security force located at a designated field office of the United States section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC). The primary mission of the security force is to protect lives and property from incidents or situations to include, but are not limited to, terrorist acts, criminal activities, vandalism or other willful damage/destruction, sabotage, trespass, theft, fire and or accidents. The position thus is engaged in mission support, contributing to the agency’s strategic goal of maximizing organizational effectiveness through innovative management accountability of human, physical, and fiscal resources.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  

·         Resolving issues ranging from routine to critical in nature and pertaining to defending National Critical Infrastructure from potential terrorist or criminal acts.  

·         Enforcing applicable rules and regulations governing vehicle use, access to parking, buildings or other facilities.

·         Detaining violators and turning them over to federal, state or local law enforcement personnel for disposition.

·         Controlling access to restricted areas.

·         Serving as a stationary or roving (foot or vehicle) security officer at a prescribed area of facility.

·         Updating a log of events occurring, including complaints, reports from shift personnel, emergencies and other significant information.

 

NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.

To qualify for this Security Guard position, you must possess the following specialized experience:

 

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG-4 level in the Federal service or equivalent pay bands (this experience could have been obtained in either the public or private sector) that equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform successfully the duties of this position. This experience must have been in such specialized activities as: work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

    HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

    CATEGORY RATING: Your application will be evaluated and rated under Category Rating selection procedures. Once the application process is complete, a review of resume and supporting documentation will be made and compared against your responses to the assessment questionnaire to determine if you are qualified for this job.     ·         Knowledge of security principles, methods and procedures of security programs

    ·         Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the use of standard weapons, equipment and tactics

    ·         Skill in reacting physically to emergency situations containing security violations and/or criminal activities

    ·         Interpersonal Skills
