This is an Excepted Service temporary appointment not-to-exceed 2 years and may be extended up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organizations.  ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.

The incumbent will be assigned to the Agroecosystem Management Research Unit in Lincoln, NE and will assess the feasibility of winter oilseed production for biofuel in Midwest corn-soybean rotations.



Major Duties:

The incumbent will quantify regional oil-seed biofuel feedstock supply under variable soil and weather conditions using process-oriented crop simulation models and will identify regions where oil-seed crop production is most suited to meet needs for bioenergy production.  Research methodology will also determine potential environmental benefits of oil-seed production as a winter cover crop and estimate risks associated with delayed soybean planting and quantifying potential soybean yield loss.
