This position serves as a Forest Assistant Fire Management Officer (FAFMO) with responsibility for assisting the FFMO to provide leadership and program direction for the unit’s fire and aviation management programs. Responsible to assist with coordinating the development of short and long-range fire management programs, fire management activities on the unit, and integrating the units fire management program with other disciplines.

This is a continuously open vacancy announcement for one or more locations throughout the Forest Service. Responsible assisting with coordinating the development of short and long-range fire management programs, fire management activities on the unit, and integrating the unit’s fire management program with other disciplines and interagency partners to achieve goals consistent with the Federal Wildland Fire Policy and agency manual direction. Provides leadership, coordination, and direction for the administration of the fire suppression; detection and prevention programs; dispatching services; fuels/vegetation management; aviation management; and the integration of fire and aviation management plans and activities with other resources including urban interface/intermix, watershed, range, ecosystem management, and recreation.
Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests.
Performs wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical capabilities and other duties as assigned.
