This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. The Student Trainee is assigned work in specific areas in order to acquire knowledge of health services research practices and procedures within a clinical/research setting. Student will perform a variety of duties associated with research assistance work in the Care Coordination Research Program. Student will use VisTa and personal Computer programs/systems in performance of duties. The student will develop the basic skills of working in a research setting.

Provides assistance to project coordinator on research protocol issues. The student will help with screening and evaluation of candidates for the study using objective rating techniques. The student will recruit and randomize patients and perform follow-up visits/phone surveys with study patients.

Performs research assistant duties such as: screening and enrolling patients, recruitment and consenting of patients, gather follow-up data on patients throughout the time of the study. The study will maintain the patient and administrative records and will conduct basic analysis of the data to support the project coordinator. Under the immediate guidance of the project coordinator, performs basic analysis of patients’ enrollment projections and comparison between study arms.

Evaluates protocol process and/ or makes recommendations for effective study protocol changes.  Communicates with PI and the Colorado Institutional Review Board on all Study protocol issues= changes, amendments deviations.

General  Experience: Applicants must have one (1) year of general experience that is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position

OR

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-04 level. Two (2) full years of education from an accredited college or university

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.  Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work.  However, there is periodic walking, standing, bending, carrying light items such as survey documents, books and manuals.  No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
