BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements which are fully qualifying for the GS-5 level. Applicants who wish to qualify for this position at the GS-9 or GS-11 grade levels must also meet additional requirements under specialized experience. The basic requirement for this position is: Successfully completed a degree in museum work, or in an applicable subject-matter field; or Possess a combination of education and experience- courses equivalent to a museum work degree or applicable subject-matter field , plus appropriate experience or additional education; or Possess four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
GS-09 Position: 1) Applying proper methods for storage, registry, preservation, and access to assist in the management of various museum collections; 2) Utilizing an automated database to enter, record, and retrieve artifact information; 3) Assisting in ensuring collections are properly maintained by cleaning artifacts, creating proper artifact mounts, and measuring and recording environmental data in museum spaces; 4) Assisting in performing registration and accessioning functions for artifacts; 5) Assisting with policy development related to collections care and management, including but not limited to acceptance criteria, de-accessioning, environmental monitoring/reporting, climate control, emergency preparedness, integrated pest management, and standardized data entry OR Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree OR possess a combination of specialized experience and education.
GS-11 Position: 1) Utilizing historical research methods to accurately determine the identity and provenance of museum artifacts; 2) Performing registration and accessioning functions for artifacts; 3) Utilizing proper methods for storage, registry, preservation, and access to assist in the management of various museum collections; 4) Developing policies and procedures related to collections care and management, including but not limited to acceptance criteria, de-accessioning, environmental monitoring/reporting, climate control, emergency preparedness, integrated pest management, and standardized data entry OR Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D degree OR possess a combination of specialized experience and education.
QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: This position has a Quality Ranking Factor (QRF). This is a factor that could be expected to enhance significantly the performance of the applicant in the position. The QRF for this position is experience directly related to performing collections management and care at a museum accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. You do not have to possess the factor in order to be rated eligible; however, applicants possessing the factor will receive additional points. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume.
