DUTIES:

· Provide prescription and drug information services to support providers in the local area. Provide advice on safe and effective drug therapy that contributes to patient care.

· Participate in programs designed to improve staff and patient knowledge of drugs pertinent to practice and/or care of patients. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing receiving, safeguarding, and issuing controlled drugs.

· Assure preparedness to meet the needs of the clinic and community in the event of a local or national disaster.

· Establish procedures, schedules workload, and integrates the work of the Refill Pharmacy with overall pharmacy program.

· Review complex pharmaceutical treatment plans/programs and develops/issues treatment guidelines, instructions and procedures establishing technical and administrative pharmaceutical care requirements.

Basic Requirement:

 

Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.

LICENSE: All applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. 

Specialized Experience:

GS-09:  One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level.  GS-11:  One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level.  GS-12:  One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level.  Specialized experience is experience gained while working in a pharmacy performing duties such as providing prescription and drug information services, taking part in programs to help improve patient knowledge of drugs.

OR

Education:  GS-09:  Successful completion of a 5-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in pharmacy from an approved pharmacy school.  GS-11:  Successful completion of a 6-year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:  

 

1. Knowledge of pharmacy, such as compounding, formulating, selecting, dispensing and preserving drugs, medicines and chemicals.

2. Knowledge of legally required records, record keeping and reports as they pertain to Pharmacy operations.

3. Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing receiving, safeguarding, and issuing of controlled drugs.

4. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of the Refill and main Pharmacy.

5. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.


You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims.  Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. 

 

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
