The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This is an internship position as part of a work/study program. The work may involve trainee duties at NASA located at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This position is for students that have been accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma) in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. NASA/KSC may non-competitively promote and convert an intern to a career/career-conditional or term appointment within 120 calendar days after completing the educational requirements and Pathway Program specifics. Conversion to a permanent or term position is NOT guaranteed and is based on the need of the agency. The Pathways Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service. The Ground Processing Directorate is responsible for providing spaceflight hardware ground processing activities, launch operations, ground systems operations and maintenance, and logistics support to NASA, other government agencies and commercial customers at KSC. The NASA Air Force Management Office (NAMO) and the KSC Weather Office are also resident with the Ground Processing Directorate.

This is an Excepted Service position.

The following grade levels will be considered GS-4/5/6/7.

Selectee will be placed within the Ground Processing Directorate.

The Pathways Intern Employment Program was established in the excepted service and provides for planned, progressive education studies at an accredited institution. Position grade levels will be determined by academic achievement. Students advance to higher grades as education is completed and approved by management. This is a traditional intern position, which means that the selectee may work alternating semesters of work with semesters of study throughout his/her matriculation.

Duties

Participates in NASA's Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP). This is a formal training program consisting of rotational periods of study and work. Specialized training is designed to accelerate an employee to the full performance level. Participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program. Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress and sign a Pathways Agreement.
