JOB SUMMARY:

The FMWRC mission is to create and maintain "FIRST CHOICE" MWR products and services for America's Army, essential to a ready, self-reliant force.

This position is located at the Melaven Physical Fitness Center on Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Melaven Physical Fitness Center is home to a swim center complete with eight lanes and diving boards. The pool, monitored by lifeguards, is available for lap swim, open swim and lessons. Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions. Directs the operation of the pool and the work of assigned lifeguards. Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it's filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water tests. Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Rescues swimmer and administers first aid as required. Ensures that safety rules are followed. Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21. Attends aquatics and/or safety training as directed. Keeps accurate records and supplies. Other duties as needed.

Possess and maintains the following certificates:

- American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification.

- American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e Ellis & Associates (CPR) Certification.

- American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates AED certification.

- American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates Oxygen Administration certification.

 

The following certificates must be obtained within 6 months of appointment: - American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e Ellis & Associate Lifeguard Instructor Certification; OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard Water Safety Instructor Certification.


Conditions of employment:

1. A one-year probationary period may be required.

2. Meet all qualification/eligibility requirements.

3.  Satisfactorily complete an employment verification check. 

4. Successfully complete all required background checks.

5. Incumbent may be required to work overtime, shift work, and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

6. Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical.

 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Credit may be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.
