This position is located in the FITNESS BRANCH, SEMPER FIT DIVISION. The Candidate selected for this position will serve as a RECREATION ASSISTANT for MCCS.

Performs and/or assists in the operation of a fitness facility/activity.  Based on established policies, incumbent carries out assigned duties to include, but not limited to; physical capabilities assessments, exercise recommendations, fitness program plans, personal training workshops and services.  Typical responsibilities include:  cleaning and maintaining equipment, offering guidance to patrons, answering questions, demonstrating equipment usage and exercise programs, perform administrative duties, monitor front desk.  

Demonstrates and promotes World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and associates, and communicates positively in a courteous and considerate manner.  Acknowledges customers and associates; smiles and makes eye contact.  Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Helps shape customer and associates expectations.  Inspires and sustains the trust and confidence of customers, associates, colleagues, senior management and subordinates.  Checks for satisfaction with the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. 

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (LEVEL 1):

This position requires the completion/passing of the in-house personal training program and First Aid and CPR within 6 months of hire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (LEVEL 2):

This position requires the completion/passing of the in-house personal training program along with obtaining an approved National Certification within 6 months of hire.  Approved National Certification includes one of the five organizations designated by Marine Corps Headquarters; American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research (CIAR), and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA).  First Aid and CPR certification is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (LEVEL 3):

This position requires the completion/passing of the in-house personal training program within 6 months of hire.  A National Certification is required from one of the five organizations designated by Marine Corps Headquarters; American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research (CIAR), and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA).  One year experience as a personal trainer.  First Aid and CPR certification is required.
