This position is located in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. The Division enforces Federal antitrust law, pursuing price-fixing and market allocation schemes, investigating mergers that may substantially reduce competition, and investigating other potentially anti-competitive conduct.

Duties

The incumbent serves as Chief of the Litigation I Section, reporting to a Deputy Assistant Attorney General. The Litigation I Section is responsible for civil antitrust enforcement, competition advocacy, and competition policy in the areas of health care, insurance, pulp, paper, timber, appliances, food products, beer, cosmetics, hair care, and bread, among others. The Litigation I Section often works with the Department of Health and Human Services and state attorneys general in health care investigations and cases and collaborates with the Federal Trade Commission on competition advocacy in the health care sectors, including advocacy efforts that address Certificates of Need Rules. 

The Chief is responsible for organizing and directing the activities of a staff of attorneys, paralegals, clerical support and other specialists engaged in the investigation, preparation, and trial of cases under the Federal antitrust laws within the jurisdiction of the office. As appropriate, the Chief is also responsible for representing the Department in interagency groups.
