As a Medical Officer (Clinical) you will be responsible for administering clinical, basic and independent research programs; working collaboratively to facilitate the conduct of clinical investigations; supporting the clinical infrastructure by serving on important clinical committees; and supporting clinical training programs.
These positions are located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), within multiple Institutes/Centers or the Office of the Director.

As a Medical Officer (Clinical) you may be involved in some of the following:
- Administer clinical and basic research projects
- Plan, organize, and direct research programs involving direct patient care using applied and/or basic research
- Review, analyze, and investigate clinical trials, protocols, and the treatment of patients
- Analyze, evaluate and interpret scientific and clinical data to prepare papers for publication and presentation
- Conceptualize new research direction and projects
- Create drug development plans, including Phase I, II and III clinical trials
- Keep abreast of scientific and clinical developments through review of literature and attending professional meetings, conferences, and symposia

Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre-medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).]
To Qualify at the GS-15 Grade Level:
In order to qualify at the GS-15 level, the applicant must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14). Examples of Specialized experience include: providing specialized medical expertise in clinical research; assisting in developing research programs, which enhanced research goals and objectives of an organization; collaborating with other organizations and outside researchers in a variety of clinically-related projects; analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting scientific and clinical data in order to prepare papers for publications in peer-reviewed journals; presenting medical findings at seminars and scientific meetings; designing, conducting, or directing clinical investigations or trials; providing direct patient care or developing organization policies about patient care; providing recommendation for the established, revised, or re-evaluated goals and objectives of the research programs; develops policies and plans to strengthening the program areas which impact national and/or international research activities.

Traditional rating and ranking of applications does not apply to this vacancy. Applications will be evaluated against the basic qualifications.
