The incumbent will be assigned to the Outpatient
Mental Health Clinic, Behavioral Medicine Service, Marion VA Medical Center and
will be located at the Evansville Health Care Center in Evansville, IN and the surrounding VA
The psychologist will conduct and document Psychiatric compensation and pension (C&P) evaluations for Veterans and military members in the process of separating from their service and who are seeking disability compensation due to mental health problems; in addition to providing an array of psychological assessment services to referred veterans. The incumbent gathers relevant information from a range of different sources, including but not limited to Case Files (C-Files), Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical records, Veteran's self-report, behavioral observations and mental status examination, historical information collected from family members and other collateral sources, structured and unstructured clinical interviews and psychometric test results. The psychologist will develop clinical and diagnostic impressions for Veterans, assesses occupational and social impairment, and provides a detailed report of the examination results following professional and VA guidelines. Duties also include providing emergency/crisis interventions to outpatients experiencing psychological crises as a result of C&P Examinations; helps to stabilize these individuals, conducts initial triaging evaluation; assists in arrangements for transfer to the Emergency Room.
The work requires the ability to adapt to complex and changing clinical assessment service demands. It also requires planning and conducting appropriate psychological assessment techniques, choosing the most appropriate methodologies from a large array of possibilities. The incumbent identifies or develops and utilizes methods establishing and evaluating work effectiveness.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am 4:30 pm.
This position may require early mornings, evenings and/or weekends and holidays. Participation on the On Call rotation schedule to accommodate patient care needs during weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights is necessary.
