- Plans, manages, organizes, and directs all research on the work carried out by subordinate supervisors and a highly trained and skilled staff of research scientists who are organized into formal subordinate organizations responsible for research on seafood safety.
- Applies knowledge of administrative and program management principles and skills in carrying out the mission of the Division as well as to address and solve unusual and often precedent setting problems associated with Divisions research programs.
- Initiates decision-making processes and documents, and participates fully in discussions and decisions concerning Office and Center research plans, programs, and activities, both in strategic planning and in the actual determination, allocation, and administration of Division research program segments, functions and activities.
- Directs the preparation of analyses of the impact of proposed changes to Agency laws and regulations that affect the research functions, program segment, and activities of the Division.
