LOCATION OF POSITION:  162nd Fighter Wing, Tucson, Arizona

 

AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED – This position is located in the Sortie Generation Division of the Aircraft Generation Division within the Logistics Directorate of an Air National Guard Wing. Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft, ranging from multi-purpose heavy, multi-engine transports to the most modern sophisticated fighters and bombers. Fully responsible for providing detailed technical insight on individual aircraft’s level of Mission Capability (FMC). All aircraft are fully integrated in and are part of the Total Force Mission of the United States Air Force. This position is responsible to fully prepare assigned aircraft for Aerospace Expeditionary Force/Wing (AEF/AEW) Operations around the world. Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections, and documentation for one or more aircraft. Ensures aircraft documentation and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) accurately reflect the airworthiness of the Aircraft. Performs in-process and final inspection of aircraft and components undergoing repair, overhaul and / or modification to verify and certify by signature adherence to work techniques, procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Plans, develops and conducts training during the technician work week to a multi facet workforce comprised of from 3 to 8 assigned military positions. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises and Operations Other Than War (OOTW). Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental and housekeeping regulations.

 

Open to current members of the 162nd FW, Arizona Air National Guard and those eligible for memebership in the 162nd FW, Arizona Air National Guard.

 

This job announcement is for employment as an Arizona Air National Guard Technician; a Federal Civil Service position.  This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in the 162FW National Guard unit and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This position is an Excepted INDEFINITE position. Individual selected will receive a Indefinite Appointment that may be converted to Permanent once the position is no longer encumbered or the funding is available for a new position.

Compatible Military Assignments: AFSC:  Applicants must possess the AFSC 2A373  

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (BONUS).  Individual selected will be required to take a pre-employment medical screening which will be paid for by the Agency.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funding is not available for this position.

NOTE:   This position is subject to rotating or night shift work.

 
NOTE:  Individual selected will receive an Indefinite appointment due to limited funding.  Funding for this position has been approved through SEPT 30, 2014 and may be extended.  Individual selected may be converted to a Permanent appointment once the position become is no longer encumbered or permanent funding becomes available.


NOTE:  Current 162FW Maintenance Group members who hole the 2A3X3 career field will be placed in a military position commensurate with current rank.

Specialized Experience:

Must have 24 months experience, education, or training with removing and replacing aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications.  Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. 

   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE IN THIS POSITION:

 

1.  Knowledge of aircraft systems and components in electrical, pneudraulic, fuel, environmental, and mechanical principles in sufficient detail to perform the duties and responsibilities as applied to aircraft and supporting systems.
2.  Working knowledge of AFTO 781 series aircraft forms, aircraft documentation and records, Automated Document System (ADS) and maintenance supply procedures.
3.  Ability to inspect and troubleshoot aircraft systems, remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories and components and to make adjustments and settings according to established specification.
4.  Skill in the use of hand tools, precision measurement devices and appropriate diagnostic equipment.
5.  Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, such as job guides, fault isolation manuals, isochronal phase inspection work cards, schematic diagrams, and Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs).
6.  Ability to plan, monitor and conduct on-the-job training and classes of instruction in techniques of repair and maintenance of aircraft and support equipment.
7.  Ability to plan, direct, control and perform the ground movement of aircraft and other work assignments such as end of runway inspections and aircrew debriefing, based on priorities, workload, availability of materials, facilities and personnel.
8.  Knowledge of safety, fire, security and housekeeping regulations.
9.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
