JOB SUMMARY:

The Office of Financial Research (OFR or Office) is a new organization established by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in the Treasury Department to provide data and analysis to the Financial Stability Oversight Council (the Council) and its member agencies, improve the quality and transparency of financial information, conduct and sponsor research related to financial stability, and promote best practices in risk management.

      As an Information Technology Specialist (Infosec) you will:

      • Performs research, identifies, and recommends, and implements cost-effective security measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of structured and unstructured data are protected;
      • Evaluates, tests, and advises on LAN/WAN infrastructure, network operating systems, networking servers, monitoring and security systems;
      • Administers, deploys, configures, and implements security systems to include access control, firewall, intrusion detection, security event and information management and vulnerability assessment capabilities;
      • Supports OFR incident response operations to include: conducting vulnerability assessments, malware analysis, and the development of new defensive security solutions, and;
      • Conducts risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities in OFR information systems.

      • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

      AND 
      Specialized experience for the Band 53, GS 13:  An applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the (BAND 52) (GS-12 equivalent) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.   Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. Specialized experience includes all of the following:
      • Hands-on experience with IP network design, implementation, and configuration including core data and security technologies such as storage, encryption, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), firewalls, proxy services,  Domain Name Service (DNS), and logical access control;
      • Hands-on experience implementing the following network technologies; Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), network management and analysis software, Demilitarized Zones (DMZ), and Authentication Authorization and Accounting (AAA) architecture.
      • Hands-on experience implementing and administering security solutions in support of enterprise information security objectives including platform hardening,  Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) capabilities, intrusion detection systems, e-discovery, and access management capabilities. 
      • Experience performing tasks in support of enterprise incident response capabilities including preparation, detection, containment, remediation, and resolution phases, 
      • Experience with datacenter technologies including virtual port-channeling, ANDExperience identifying where there is a need for changes based on new security technologies or threats.
      Experience can be gained in the public or private sectors. Part time experience will be prorated.
