US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

This is a Flex 00/Intermittent position with the Goodfellow AFB Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF). Flexible employees serve in a continuing position on a scheduled or as-needed basis.  


Work schedule to be determined after hire. No holidays, shift work, or TDY.

Assists veterinary personnel in providing care, management, treatment, and sanitary conditions for animals in a veterinary treatment facility; positions and restrains animals for examination and treatment; measures and records animals' weight, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate; performs general physical examination of animals; collects, preserves, and prepares lab specimens for shipment and/or laboratory examination; performs routine diagnostic laboratory tests; prepares animal for surgery and functions as scrub assistant during surgical procedures; administers medications, treatments, and immunizations; provides medications and treatment instructions; Performs a variety of administrative and clerical functions, to include; answers the telephone and schedules appointments for vaccinations, sick call, and surgery; greets and receives clients; initiates, maintains, and files animal health records; responds to customer inquiries and concerns, providing general information; and assists in inventory control and ordering as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in providing care to animals.

Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability in positioning and restraining animals.

Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform general physical examinations.

Work experience demonstrating ability to perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests (e.g. fecal smears, flotations, urinalyses, blood counts, etc.)

Work experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of administrative and clerical functions.



Conditions of employment:

1. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

2. 4. Ability to work Saturday shifts may be required.

5. A pre-employment physical will need to be favorably completed after selection.


Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies: Minimum Qualifications, Skill in Veterinary Processes, Experience in Veterinary Processes, Verbal Communication, and Written Communication.


Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid experience or volunteer work.


Applicants meeting the best qualified criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official. All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection.


Applicants who indicate they are not able to work the weekend shifts will be ineligible for consideration as you do not meet the conditions of employment.
