The Textile Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for establishing production schedules for the Clothing and Textiles factories based on customer sales requirements. The incumbent facilitates conformance of all manufacturing areas to established requirements to enable Federal Prison Industries to meet customer requirements. The individual provides guidance concerning production, plant layout, machinery methods and manufacturing improvements.
 
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staffs correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
 
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.   
 
Experience
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

  • Experience in industrial operations, plant layouts, and machinery used in the fabrication of complex products.
  • Experience in cost/benefit analysis to ensure that production costs are kept to a minimum while assuring maximum benefit to both Federal Prison Industries and the customer in terms of quality and on-time delivery.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment to include methods/process analysis, problem solving, production planning, inventory control and production flow management.
Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities.

Special Conditions of Employment Section:
