Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: Advanced experience in primary health care, provides direct comperhensive preventive and therapeutic health services to individuals, families or groups. This includes assessing the health status of individuals, managing the care of selected patients and providing treatment, health teachng, counseling, guidance, and instructions to individuals and families so that they particpate in a plan of care.
Selective Placement factor: In addition to the qualification requirements, to be rated basically qualified for the position, applicants must demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Verification of a current, valid, active, unrestricted license in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States is required when filling all positions for registered nurses at all levels.
- Applicants must have certification issued by the appropriate certifying body (such as the American Nursing Association) as a Nurse Practitioner.
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE (PHS) LICENSURE POLICY: Each PHS Nurse must possess and maintain a valid, active, current licensure/registration as professional nurse.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
