This position serves as the agency aerospace engineering authority within a specialty that involves the establishment, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of reliability programs for aeronautical and aerospace systems including launch vehicles, spacecraft, and associated ground support equipment. Establishes, maintains, and evaluates reliability assurance policies and programs through all phases of aeronautical and aerospace systems, launch vehicles, spacecraft, and associated ground support equipment from design through operational use.
Formulates, develops, coordinates, recommends, and evaluates the effectiveness of the NASA-wide Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) and mechanical and electronic parts policies for all NASA aeronautics and space programs. Develops broad resource requirements, policies, procedures, budget, and operational schedules for the NASA RAM program. Serves on technical committees and advisory groups concerned with establishing and administering standards for engineering programs of national or international scope in the areas of RAM and mechanical and electronic parts.
Serves as an expert consultant and primary focal point for NASA-wide RAM matters and elements in advanced technology and engineering application in RAM. Manages, coordinates, and conducts studies, research efforts, and investigations to advance the state-of-the-art techniques in RAM system test effectiveness, software/hardware interface assurance and other techniques. Establishes and maintains methodologies to collect and analyze data, including the development of adequately supported reliability and maintainability data bases. Directs, manages, and conducts special studies and analyses to review implementation of new and innovative techniques to achieve the desired RAM in a more cost effective manner.
