WHAT IS THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS)? The IRS is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and one of the world's most efficient tax administrators. Yearly, the IRS collects more than $2 trillion in revenue and processes over 200 million tax returns. The IRS Mission is to provide the United States taxpayers top quality service by helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities and by applying the tax law with integrity and fairness to all.
WHAT DOES A TAX EXAMINING CLERK DO? IRS employs Tax Examining Clerks (TECs) in many areas throughout the Service. In the SB/SE function, TECs responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules, and other documentation. Resolve account inquiries, advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; and manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special case handling. Adjust taxpayer accounts; prepares and issues manual refunds; performs multiple credit transfers; and computes tax, penalty, and interest (including restricted interest). Analyzes and resolves tax processing problems. Secures payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns. Recommends lien and/or levy action, including supporting information of release.
WHAT IS THE WAGE & INVESTMENT DIVISION? The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.
Positions are located in Wage & Investment, Document Perfection located at 333 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MO. The anticipated start date is February-March 2014. Tour of Duty - Sunday-Thursday 7:00 pm - 3:30 am and Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. This announcement is being extended due to the low number of applications.
