The Louisville, Kentucky Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), an affiliate of the University of Louisville (U of L) School of Medicine, is seeking qualified applicants to join our Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service (MH&BSS).  We are seeking a full-time board-certified/board-eligible psychiatrist to provide outpatient mental health treatment to veterans in the Community Based Outpatient Clinics and Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) program. 


The outpatient psychiatrist is expected to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with mental illness according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.  You will perform initial clinical diagnostic examinations, and formulating initial treatment plans for their patients and provide clinical medication management services, and coordinate medical care for mental health clinic patients requiring primary care follow up, or specialty medical/surgical consultation.  Additionally, you will provide tele-mental health to patients at CBOCs as needed.


The Louisville, Kentucky Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is an affiliate of the University of Louisville (U of L) School of Medicine.  Our Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service (MH&BSS) is a major training site for U of L psychiatry residents and medical students, and psychology, nursing, and social work students, and plays an active role in U of L's research program.  This position may require training of medical students, interns, residents, and substance abuse fellows from U of L and Performance Improvement activities or other administrative duties as assigned.  Candidates must be eligible for U of L faculty appointment.  Candidates must be BC/BE in Psychiatry and hold a current, full, active and unrestricted license. For specific information , please contact Dr. Theodore Mueller, MD, 502-287-4000, extension 54251.

PRIMARY DUTY STATION: Incumbent will work from both Shively Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and Dupont CBOC.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (nights and weekends as needed). Please Note: The position requires taking call which is rotated with other staff psychiatrists.

You must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for this position:

·         Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine

·         Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or psychiatry in a State; Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

·         Must be Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Psychiatry
