GRADE/SALARY: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-5. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of (GS-3) to (GS-5). The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved by the medical center director.
Salary note: The locations in Blairsville and Rome have a different locality pay than all other locations within the Metro Atlanta commuting area. The locality pay for these 2 locations is 14.16% with a salary range from $24,933 - $40, 706. The locality pay for the other locations is 19.29% with a salary range from $26,053 - $42,535.
This announcement will be used to fill multiple duty locations in:
Decatur and surrounding CBOCs (Satellite Clinics) in Stockbride, Newnan,
Fort McPherson, Henderson Mill, Austell, Lawrenceville, Oakwood, Austell,
Blairsville, Rome, Carrollton, East Point and Stockbridge.

The Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center
is recruiting for Medical Support Assistants. These positions will be filled to work in various service lines within the Atlanta VAMC and it's satellite locations .
The Medical Support Assistant duties include:
Processing orders and charting of ordered medications
usually done by the ward clerks in an inpatient setting.
Performing release of information duties both inpatient
and ambulatory care.
Requesting medical information from other facilities.
Checking in scheduled and unscheduled appointments of
Managing appointments and collecting demographic
information for the designated team.
Coordinating outpatient scheduling of all appointments
for designated team providers.
Assisting team staff in obtaining laboratory, radiology,
Assisting team staff in updating problem list for each
episode of care.
Accessing medication profiles to ensure that patient
medication requests are referred to the assigned provider or team member.
Assisting team staff in monitoring JCAHO required record
criteria (i.e. history and physical exam, signing operation reports, informed
Coordinating consultations in the facility and with other
Transcribing doctor's orders in outpatient setting.
Screening and referring telephone calls to appropriate
Performing other duties such as fee basis referral,
filing records, reminder call for patient's appointments in clinics, writing
minutes for meetings, action required profile and time keeping.
Work schedule: There are various work schedules available. Typically, work schedules are Monday- Friday, day shift. However, management will determine the actual tour of duty for each specific area/location.
