In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. If you are above the maximum entry age and have prior federal law enforcement coverage, you MUST submit an SF-50 to verify prior coverage.
Qualified Preference Eligible Veterans may be exempt from meeting the maximum age of 37. Please refer to the Required Documents Section for the appropriate documentation to submit to validate veteran eligibility.
The incumbent designs and implements leisure-time activities in a correctional institution which primarily include individual and team sports such as weight-lifting, track, basketball, softball, flag football, etc. Within established agency policy and objectives, incumbent plans the institution's sports program, to include intramural sports programs and tournaments, as well as additional activities made possible through available resources.
The incumbent develops, improvises, and adapts the various recreational activities to the wide range of participant interests and needs, and must meet the limitation of funds, facilities, equipment, and volunteer and other staff support available. Modifies, adapts, expands, or otherwise revises plans for scheduled sports events/activities.
The incumbent schedules and publicizes tournaments and other sporting events, ensuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and motivating participants and in providing the widest possible range of activities in terms of interests and needs. Coordinates intramural programs and tournaments with other departments to assure that there are no problems with institution security, and to enlist support and cooperation of all institution staff. Also, coordinates the activities schedule with the custodial staff to insure compliance with security requirements.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
